Max was surrendered to Santa Cruz county animal services by his owners and is now being fostered. They said he’s a Belgian Sheepdog with papers. They obtained him as a puppy from a breeder in Modesto area. Max is now 11 years old. (The owners are moving to a condo in Southern California, where dogs are not allowed.) He has been cared for – has i.d. & rabies tags, is on heartworm preventative, tested fine with a full blood panel test just before coming in, and has been fully clipped (unfortunately) – summer haircut. The owners said he is great with kids and dogs, has no behavior issues and has been an indoor/outdoor dog.
All the shelter staff liked Max a lot! They had him spend time at the front desk, where he greets everyone happily - people, dogs, even a litter of kittens. Max has good social skills & so the staff is introducing incoming dogs to him, to help with their observation/behavior assessments. He has had obedience training, and responds to his name, makes great eye contact, sits, walks on lead, catches a ball, etc. He’s trusting and affectionate. He is younger than his age in energy and playfulness. But he settles in the kennel. He is about 23” in height (withers).
If you know someone who would enjoy walks and companionship with Max, or be able to help, please feel free to forward this info and photos. |
