Next Event: BELGIAN FUN DAY! for Barbary Coast Belgians (and Friends)

Sunday, November 13, 2005

at the home of Ellen Haro, 7701 Robben Road , Dixon , CA (707-678-3888)

10:00 AM to about 4:00 PM

Play Day activities include rally obedience and agility equipment available; possibly impromptu problem solving/tips with conformation or obedience ring work.

Barbary Coast Club Meeting at lunchtime.

Agenda: Officer/Board nominations for 2006; schedule annual meeting; Board vote on prospective members. (See details below)

If you wish to nominate Officers or Board members (including yourself!) or have pertinent information about member applicants or dates we should consider (conflicts to avoid?) but will not be at the meeting—please contact Margaret Grinols ( grinols2002@yahoo.com ) or 510-798-6923 (evenings before 9 PM, or leave a message) so she will have that information.

Please bring:

1) Brown-bag lunch; something to share if you like (no need to coordinate—we'll have a planned pot-luck lunch for the Annual Meeting in January). Ellen will have coffee & cold drinks available. If you're bringing anything to reheat, make it microwaveable.

2) Something to sit on.

3) Usual dog event stuff: water, crates or X-pens. There is shade at the site. Bring treats/rewards for your dog for Rally-O, agility practice, etc.

4) Fee: $10, for however many dogs and whatever you want to do. Part of it will go towards BCBSC insurance, etc.

Directions:

From the San Francisco Bay Area, heading toward Dixon and Sacramento on I-80, take the Midway/Lewis exit, going right on Midway. Proceed on Midway for 6.5 miles to Robben Road (do not follow the dotted yellow line curving left into Dixon, do stay on Midway going straight over the railroad tracks, through the 4-way stop at Pedrick Road, and about a mile further to complete the 6.5 miles!). Now turn left on Robben Rd. and go 1.5 miles; the Haro's Greenfields Belgians is the 3 rd house on the left. Alternatively, if you need food or gas, you could go past the Midway exit off I-80 to the Dixon exit, go all the way through Dixon on the main street until it ends in a 3-way stop at Robben Road; in this case you would turn right on Robben, go one-half mile, and Greenfields Belgians is the first place on your right.

From I-80 Westbound (from Sacramento ): Exit at Pedrick Road (previous exit is Kidwell Rd ). At STOP sign, turn left onto Pedrick (cross over I-80). Go south on Pedrick for 3 miles (3 stop signs) to Dixon Avenue East . Turn left onto Dixon Ave. East —it ends in 1 mile at Robben Road . Turn right onto Robben, go half a mile to the first place on the right (sign out front: Greenfields Belgians).

From either direction—if you need food or fuel, go 1 exit farther.

Annual Meeting & Elections: Lorra Miller has graciously agreed to host the annual meeting (with lunch, dogs, etc.) at her home in Los Gatos . Possible dates are the weekends of January 7/8 or 28/29. We will decide the date at the meeting on November 13 (contact Margaret Grinols with your Saturday or Sunday and date preferences/availability, if you can't attend the November meeting).

Rescue News:

A BIG THANK YOU! to Melissa Rogoway and David Tannenbaum for organizing the 2 nd Annual Belgian Strut on August 21—we had a great day—and many thanks to all who contributed: we raised over $600 for Rescue!

Message from Lynne: If you could list under "alternate sources" two Belgian mixes we have that would be great. They are not being sponsored by BCBSC, but Rescue (Lynne, Carole & Lu) coordinated getting these dogs into foster homes and are helping market them.

"Kayla" - a 7 yr. old Belgian Sheepdog/Australian Shepherd Mix, really sweet and extremely willing to bond. Shy with strangers, needs to warm up first and gets on well with all types of animals.

"Max" - an 11 yr old Belgian Sheepdog Mix, outstanding temperament and terrific personality. Adores people and gets along very nicely with all animals. Highly sociable boy.

All interested parties, contact me directly at home number (650-879-0185) or e-mail address < blackdogranch@southcoast.net >. Thanks very much!

Membership Applications: (Board vote on November 13; please send comments to Margaret Grinols.)

Kim & Tom Zioncheck: They live in Montara and have been involved with pure-bred dogs for 23 years. They now own one of “Justin's” puppies, named “Bear” (from Ramona Kraft), and are very interested in learning about the breed and being involved in lots of activities together with their dog.

Sudeshna Datta & Anil Kaul: These folks live in Alameda , and have recently gotten their first dog (although relatives have owned German Shepherds in the past), a re-homed Belgian. Some of us enjoyed meeting them with “Jadoo” at the Belgian Strut. Lynne Narez is sponsoring their membership, and feels we will benefit from their participation in Club activities while they learn more about their “beautiful Belgian Sheepdog”.

Reminder-- Member Roster: Michelle Wilson has volunteered to put together a phone/email roster to be distributed to Barbary Coast members (active, paid members only at this time) so we can contact each other easily. If she has not already contacted you, and you wish to be included on the list, you can send your information to her ( cheyenne200@earthlink.net ) along with your “OK” to be listed .

If you are a Barbary Coast member, but have not paid your dues for 2005 (therefore you are considered “inactive” so far), please send the dues ASAP to Penny Proctor, 758 Greer Road, Palo Alto 94303, so she can update you to “active” status.
